The NASUWT Union is calling for an inquiry after concerns were raised that the head of a Northamptonshire (in England) academy chain is earning up to £180,000 – approximately US$235,000 – and now employs her husband and daughter working alongside her at the secondary school – reports the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.
The story claims that a whistleblower, believed to be a teacher, wrote to the school’s board of directors to raise concerns about senior pay and employment of close family. The head teacher is reported to be Victoria Bishop, and her daughter, Claire, and husband, Barry, also occupy senior positions at the school, listed as being one of the several assistant principals and IT teacher respectively.
The NASUWT are calling for an investigation raising the matter at a national level, and the academies trust board of directors have responded with a news release, which can be viewed here.
This is not the only school where a new headteacher is appointed, and family members follow to fill senior positions in the school, and does call into question many ethical concerns.
